Cheers to a New Year! Reflecting on 2014, I'm proud to say we've come far but we have farther to go. Let's be proud and loud again in 2015!
Straight from Smatresk

Dear Alum,

The New Year is an opportunity to look ahead to new and better things.

As members of the UNT family, you have an important stake in UNT's future, and I look forward to having your input in the coming year.

President Smatresk, with UNT cheerleaders, Scrappy and UNT band.

You'll be pleased to know we're making important strides in academics, new hires and building on our reputation as a research institution with the help of renowned faculty researchers like new National Academy of Inventors Fellow Richard Dixon.

I'm also excited to share we have a founding vice president for enrollment and new dean for UNT's Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science. We hope to soon complete searches for a new vice president for diversity and inclusion and vice president for advancement. These key positions will help move us forward on the path to becoming a nationally prominent and recognized university.

I'm grateful for your support over the past year and honored to be one of the Denton Record-Chronicle's 10 Most Interesting People for 2014.

We're off to a great start in 2015 and with your continued support, I know we'll achieve even greater things in the new year!

UNT proud,
Neal Smatresk

Connecting through business

I recently had breakfast with College of Business alums in the Eagle Business Network, a great way for our business alumni to connect and share their expertise. Learn how to get involved. This initiative and innovative programs like our new Professional Selling Program make our business college -- one of the largest in the nation -- a great training ground for students. Learn how PSP and its partnerships help students soar.

Consortium + new degree = Leading the pack

I'm proud of the continued growth and impact of UNT's College of Engineering. Our engineering college -- thanks to the cutting-edge research of Cheng Yu (above) -- has joined the Cold-Formed Steel Research Consortium, a team of leading scientists working to advance research on cold-formed steel, a sustainable building material. The college also is the first in Texas to offer a doctorate in mechanical and energy engineering, helping us lead the pack in new ways.
