Dear Alum,

UNT President Neal Smatresk with new student with her hair dy
ed green at orientaionThere is no rest for the weary this summer as we prepare for a new academic year.

Our orientation sessions are attracting students who are already full of UNT pride, like the one I met at a recent transfer orientation. These sessions prep our students for success while building pride and community before the semester even starts.

We're expecting another strong and diverse freshman class this year. I can't wait to welcome more students into the UNT family!

I'm also excited that one of our key initiatives is gaining momentum. UNT's New College at Frisco opened in January to bring the power and convenience of a UNT education to one of the nation's fastest-growing areas. We're now offering degree programs and a wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses for people who want to start -- or continue -- their studies. Our focus is to develop programs that will help people pursue hot career fields or work at top companies in the area such as Toyota, Frito-Lay or the Dallas Cowboys World Headquarters -- The Star. If you or someone you know is interested in UNT's New College, check us out and spread the news!

We're dreaming big for this academic year. Stay tuned for what's to come!

UNT Proud,
Neal Smatresk

$1.2M endowed professorship boosts data science
Working with the U.S. Intelligence Department to decrypt messages during World War II, UNT alumna Jesse Reinburg ('41) worked in data science long before it became the in-demand career field that it is today. Her group intercepted and decoded the message that Japan was planning to bomb Pearl Harbor. Now, thanks to her generosity, UNT has a $1.2 million endowed professorship fund, the Reinburg Professorship in Data Sciences, to create a professorship in the Department of Library and Information Sciences.

Students putting their know-how to work

Putting their knowledge to work, our marketing students are helping clients like AT&T, Chili's Grill & Bar and start-ups strategize and grow their businesses. Guided by faculty mentors in our College of Business, these students are helping businesses launch new products, increase their market share and overcome hurdles in a capstone course for seniors and a graduate level course.
