Students crossing the bridge at UNT
Orientation is under way for the Class of 2022! These students, who are part of Generation Z, are incredibly entrepreneurial and are driving us to rethink UNT's delivery of education. During orientation, they meet with faculty and staff, learn about Mean Green pride and traditions from student leaders and make new friends.

Dear Alum,

I'm curious to know if you're working in the professional field you envisioned during your time as a UNT student. Perhaps your career has been predictable based on your major or you're in a position that didn't exist a decade ago. It used to be that students came to college knowing what they wanted to do and majored in a closely aligned field. Aspiring biologists, such as myself, studied biology, hopeful teachers studied education and individuals intrigued by building studied engineering.

Today's students have a different mindset. Gen Z, those born between 1995 and 2010, make up the majority of our first-time-in-college undergraduate population. These students live their real-world lives seamlessly with technology and are incredibly entrepreneurial — with 63 percent interested in taking courses in how to found or run a business. They don't want to be lumped into standard academic programs. They want to invent their own future, and 60 percent expect to have multiple careers, not jobs, by age 30. Rather than study one field, we're often hearing that students want to study a little bit in multiple areas, then figure out how to meld that knowledge into a career following graduation.

As a Tier One research university and top producer of graduates in the North Texas region, it's our job to prepare students for undefined job futures and provide them with the abilities that will sustain them throughout every step of their career path. We're focused on making sure our students are effective, hardworking critical thinkers, communicators and team players. Through a deep, innovative curriculum, and personalized advising and career advice, we help our students match their skills to careers currently available in the marketplace, while preparing them for future roles that have yet to be created.

At UNT, we aim to provide our students with rich experiences so they are prepared for careers in a rapidly changing world. And we want you to tell us how you're seeing your profession transform, so email me at president@unt.edu.

Dude Perfect
Dude Perfect, a sports entertainment group known for creating YouTube videos filled with zany trick shots, stunts and unbelievable feats, filmed its most recent video at the UNT Super Pit. Viewed more than 13 million times, the video features Dude Perfect members dressed as their old-man alter egos, completing trick shots, including a few from the rafters! It's a great video, and I especially loved seeing the home of Mean Green men's and women's basketball on display!

New Regents
appointed
UNT System logo
UNT alumni Mary Denny ('73) and Carlos Munguia ('79) recently were appointed to the UNT System Board of Regents by Gov. Greg Abbott. Regent Milton B. Lee II was reappointed to a second term and Amanda Pajares, a UNT Dallas College of Law student, was appointed to a one-year student regent term. Regent Denny is a graduate of the UNT College of Education, former state representative of House District 63, and currently owns and operates a ranching and rental property. Regent Munguia is president of the Dallas Region of Amegy Bank, and a board member and former chairman of the UNT College of Business Advisory Board. I look forward to working with each of them and the entire UNT System Board of Regents to fulfill our mission of preparing students for careers in a rapidly changing world.

UNT Women's Tennis team
Student-athletes achieve academically, prepare for season

Our student-athletes work hard to represent UNT, both academically and athletically. In addition to achieving our highest-ever Graduation Success Rate, the accomplishments of our Mean Green athletes recently were recognized by the release of the NCAA's Academic Progress Rate data, the annual scorecard of academic achievement for all Division I sports teams. Our women's tennis team leads the way, with a perfect multiyear score of 1,000 that places them in the top 10 percent nationally. Seven of our programs scored 980 or higher, and all 14 earned greater than 960. I am proud of their achievements and look forward to the upcoming year, which they're hard at work preparing for. Conference USA recently announced a new schedule format for men's basketball, football game kickoff times and broadcast networks are set, Rodney DeLong was recently named head coach of Mean Green Softball, and construction continues on the new stadium for soccer and track and field.
