Dear UNT supporter,

2023 EnrollmentIt's time to celebrate! Fall enrollment at the University of North Texas hit nearly 47,000 students, up 5.8 percent — our fifth consecutive year for record-breaking growth. Since 2019, UNT has been instrumental in shaping higher education across the state — accounting for 52.3% of the growth in new enrollees at Texas' public universities. Enrollment growth at our UNT at Frisco campus contributed to our overall growth as UNT's presence in Collin County, one of the nation's fastest growing communities, continues to make an impact. Corporate partnerships with surrounding businesses in the area are providing opportunities to help ensure students are successful.

Alumni and friends like you already have a sense of why more and more students — including a record more than 7,000 incoming freshman — are coming to UNT to earn their degree.

It's hard to attribute it to just one thing, but our "secret" isn't so secret at all — our caring and creative campus community, grounded in our Shared Values, is second to none. UNT faculty and staff are committed to helping students succeed while they are at UNT so they can thrive throughout their career in a complex and changing world. As the university serves more students and awards more degrees than ever —particularly in business, information science, and computer science and engineering, it is bolstering the North Texas region's workforce and helping drive the state's economy. Since 2012, UNT has produced more than 105,000 degree holders equating to an economic impact of $5.4 billion in potential annual earnings.

As we grow, we continue to keep pace with industry demands, offering students more than 244 programs to choose from, including programs in sports management, data analytics, biomedical engineering, and many interdisciplinary degrees where students customize their own programs of study. First-year and second-year students are taking our Career Readiness Seminars, now required courses to help students navigate all the resources available to them while at UNT, including access to the Career Center, career coaches, and more. We continue to invest in our greatest asset — our students' success. Read more in the latest issue of the North Texan.

Students and their families may visit a handful of schools before deciding where to attend, but once they come to our campus, the decision is easy. The welcoming culture, focus on academics and career-readiness, supportive faculty and staff, beautiful campus, events, sports, and award-winning dining — it's a no brainer to make UNT their home.

Thank you for your continued support. You do make a difference.

UNT Proud,

The Inside Scoop
Last month, UNT officially opened the doors on two new career centers to better help our students secure internships and develop career pathways with top employers.
A Center to
Launch Dreams
UNT at Frisco students have more opportunities to explore life-changing career pathways and earn scholarships thanks to a $3 million donation to establish the Satish and Yasmin Gupta Career Center at Frisco Landing, the first building at the UNT at Frisco branch campus. The Guptas chose to launch a career center because it would help first-generation students and others from marginalized communities. Ultimately, they want to help college students pursue their dreams.

An Epicenter
of Success
In 2022, Wilson Jones and his wife, Jane, presented the G. Brint Ryan College of Business a $5 million gift — the second-largest donation in its history — to create The Wilson Jones Career Center, which provides guided career preparation to its 9,500 business students. With construction complete, the career center dedication was held September 29, and included a ribbon cutting ceremony. "This center will equip students with the tools they need to make their mark in the ever-evolving business landscape," Jones said.

New Endowment for
Veteran Services
Student Veteran Services received a $25,000 endowment from Denton's Phil Miller VFW Post 2205 and VFW Auxiliary Post 2205. The historic gift, the first of its kind from an individual VFW post to a Division I school, will provide scholarships for UNT student veterans and will help connect students and local VFW members through family nights and career fairs. UNT's Student Veteran Services, directed by James Davenport, assists more than 3,000 student veterans and veteran dependents on campus.

Disaster Recovery
and Resilience
What can emotional attachment teach us about disasters? In the latest installment of The Lab, Dr. Ronald Schumann III, associate professor in the Department of Emergency Management and Disaster Science, talks about his research on the human dimensions of hazards and disasters, and how Hurricane Katrina set him on that path.

Spotlight on Excellence
Graffiti Artist

CEY ADAMS, DEPARTURE: 40 Years of Art and Design opened in August at the CVAD Gallery in the Art Building. Known as a cultural pioneer as well as an innovative designer and artist, Adams got his start painting graffiti in New York City in the late 1970s. He later worked as creative director for Russell Simmons' Def Jam Recordings, creating visual identities, album covers, logos and ad campaigns for Run DMC, Beastie Boys, Maroon 5 and Jay-Z, among others. The exhibition runs through Dec. 15. (Adams is pictured in the gallery being interviewed by Bria Maiden, CVAD marketing coordinator.) Read more about Cey Adams.

CVAD alumni should mark their calendars for the exciting 130/30 event Oct. 28, celebrating the college's 130th year teaching art (since 1883) and three decades since becoming the School of Visual Arts. Events including an alumni-career panel, faculty and staff demonstrations, student artwork exhibitions and family activities are planned. Also, join CVAD as it honors its excellent scholarship donors and recipients. See the complete schedule.
