Dear UNT supporter,

As you know, UNT has been committed to transforming the lives of our students through education and opportunity since our founding in 1890. What sets us apart from every other institution in Texas — and the nation — is our caring and creative community that nurtures and supports these future leaders of tomorrow. This support does not happen on its own. We rely on the generosity of business partners, community members, faculty, staff, and our alumni, to pour into these students. Many students are struggling to make it. Some students are working multiple jobs in addition to attending class full time, just to make ends meet. Sometimes it's a matter of a few hundred dollars to get them out of a financial bind so they can continue their education.

That's the impact of your donations during the UNT Day of Giving. No matter the size, you will see the effect. You can donate to an area you're passionate about and support various scholarships, programs, emergency funding, or whatever cause you're led to support. I know the economic times we're in are tough, but I hope you'll be able to give and support your university. We are all part of the Mean Green Family and are here to help each other grow to our fullest potential.

You can make your donation today by visiting givingday.unt.edu during our second annual #UNTDayOfGiving, May 1. You'll be able to select the department or program, as well as the fund designation, for which you'd like to give. It's easy and secure, and within minutes, you can make an indelible impact here at UNT.

Thank you so much for your generosity, and your commitment to our students and UNT.

UNT Proud,
Neal Smatresk
President

The Inside Scoop
It's the Journey
The spring issue of the North Texan is out with a great cover story about the benefits of ... failing. Failure teaches us to persevere, to grow, to consider new options and to appreciate success, among other lessons. Read more on the subject from President Smatresk, Dr. Narendra Dahotre, student-athlete KeAyla Dove and several successful alumni.

Zero Waste Textiles
Dr. Iva Jestratijevic, assistant professor in the College of Merchandising, Hospitality and Tourism, launched the Zero Waste Textile initiative at UNT with a grant from the State of Texas Alliance for Recycling and the assistance of current and former students. Unwanted items will be collected in pink recycling bins at Chilton Hall. The group will be collecting data on the materials as well as keeping them out of landfills and serving the community. Some of the items will go to UNT students through the Diamond Eagle Clothing Closet, and others will be shared with the Chickasaw Nation ReUse Center in Oklahoma.

Artist-in-Residence
Lyle Lovett was the artist-in-residence at two public events in the College of Music: a Music Business Departmental Q&A and a One O'Clock Lab Band rehearsal. Lovett encouraged music students to remain true to their craft while becoming educated about the recording industry — such as through UNT's newly established bachelor's in commercial music degree program that is set to begin in Fall 2025. Check out a song from Lovett's 12th of June album, inspired by his young twins. Professor Brad Leali also is in the video, on saxophone.

Spotlight on Excellence
Propelling Research to New Heights

Earlier this month, we unveiled the UNT Advanced Air Mobility (UAAM) test facility at Discovery Park. The facility came from a strategic collaboration between the G. Brint Ryan College of Business and the College of Engineering. The opening marks a pivotal moment in unmanned vehicle research, bolstered by the expertise of the Center of Integrated Intelligent Mobility Systems (CIIMS), an interdisciplinary research endeavor paving the way for the future of transportation and mobility. At 80 feet tall, 120 feet long, and 300 feet wide, the UAAM facility is the largest of its kind in Texas and one of the biggest nationally. "It will really position UNT as a leader in advanced air mobility research," said Terry Pohlen, senior associate dean of the G. Brint Ryan College of Business, who also serves as co-director of CIIMS.
