Straight from Smatresk |
Dear UNT supporter,
More students than ever before are choosing to study at UNT, and we're excited to see all they achieve this year as they work toward their goals. With 244 programs of study, UNT enables each student to pursue their academic interests in an inclusive, caring environment. We embrace each student's background and identities, with programs in place to help all students flourish — from veterans and international students to neurodivergent students and those with intellectual disabilities.
Each year, we amplify the support provided to our growing first-generation population. More than 41% of our students self-identify as the first in their families to attend a college or university, and we know there can be unique challenges in navigating a new environment. The First-Generation Success Center is one of many university programs that aims to help these students find their footing for success.
First-generation students Arath Herrera and Fatima Macias Ortiz allowed us to chronicle their first year at UNT for a video and story showcasing a slice of life at UNT. With on-campus jobs, involvement with student organizations, and support from campus resources like Latin Dreams and the Writing Center, they are thriving at UNT.
The challenges and triumphs Arath and Fatima shared are representative of those experienced by thousands of UNT students and alumni. With support from caring faculty and staff, we help students problem solve to find solutions for success. Here's to another tremendous year of transformation.
UNT Proud,
Neal Smatresk
President
